Dear readers,
it’s been quite a while, I’ve been quiet a while…sorry, dad puns, but truth is OM is slowing a bit down atm. New tapes are in the making though. And, if you live nearby Nuremberg/Germany, you might have noticed I was involved in some live shows this year. Last one for 2022 will happen tomorrow, 2.12.22, at SPACE BETWEEN, this beautiful, weird cement cube right under a train station. Andrew Bernstein from Horse Lords plays the longform piece "In Flux" together with a colorful chamber music ensemble - musicians from the Horse Lords, Red On, Spemakh, Trio Vier, and others.
We met Andrew on a tour weekend with DRNTTCKS in mid-May, at that time he was playing solo in the SB and exploring the possibilities of the space with his saxophone - the evening was quite magical. The idea of performing one of his tracks with people from around here came about pretty quickly, and now there's cello (Sophia from Red On), double bass (Stephan/Spemakh), violin (Rebekka/Oporto), two saxophones (Andrew & Sandrine Ramamonjisoa) and a guitar (Owen/Horse lords) intrepreting "In Flux" from Andrew's last tape on Hausu Mountain. The piece has only been performed in New York and Berlin so far, and I'm very hyped to be able to bring it to Nuremberg together with Andrew and the It Isn't Happening Crew. It's going to be pretty good, and I'm looking forward to seeing some of you at the door (where I'll hopefully be sitting, I'm sick right now) before I largely retire from hosting events for the foreseeable future. So yes, this will be the first of a few other “last ones”.
Also on 2.12.22, there’s another bandcamp friday. I’ve upped 5 more tapes of the Laure Boer/Laurent Boer split, after that, this edition will be gone. There are also still tapes left from Buck Moon, en creux, Night Foundation, and why the f***k do I still have tapes of The Wallkeeper, which is, imho, the only HNW tape you’ll ever need. If you want more than one tape, just drop me a line, it’s cheaper that way. Talking about Buck Moon: They recently released a new 10” record with a cover drawing by legendary Christoph Heemann (Hirsche Nicht Aufs Sofa), and in true Buck Moon style, you won’t find it anywhere, but I guess you can order it by pm’ing @econore_noise or @grisaille_tapes on insta.
Oh and congrats to Brandon López - the Moten/López/Cleaver Trio LP on Reading Group is #3 jazz album of the year in the NY Times! Is this a good way to inform you we also have some tapes left of the Lopez/Lopez collab tape Guilt Tripping? Wild, angry bass/synth improvisations. And while I’m at it: please check out FLUT. Comprised of the two ex-Nurembergians Isabel Rößler (double bass) & Christopher Kunz (sax) plus drummer Martial Frenzel, they released an immensely great LP lately. Free Jazz and all other political prisoners! Sorry, dad jokes, you know…
Stay close to your loved ones, stay healthy, stay warm, burn down some capitalists.
End transmission,
Ambassador Kaputt
